The first rider is in through the pit gates and as he tells us in his own words, Ashley is delighted to be returning.

With the future of Newcastle Diamonds secured and the excellent news that once again the sound of speedway engines roaring around Brough Park in 2018 will fill the air, the next stage of planning for the forthcoming season was to start finding the riders that will don the famous black and white colours.

Judging by the reaction across Social Media, The Newcastle Promotion have made a very popular choice in returning for his third season as a Diamond, Ashley Morris aka The Black Country Blaster, who is the first piece of the jigsaw to be put in place.

Ashley would be the first to admit that 2017 was not the season he hoped for. At times, and particularly around the tight Tyneside track, he showed a lot of potential and glimpses of what he’s capable of but, having only one team to ride for severely restricted his progress.

2018 should change all that as Ashley will not only be a Diamond, he will also be a Wolf as he’s signed for Premiership side Wolverhampton. That additional track time and standard of racing should not only help his cause, it should also see him improve as a Championship rider.

A fact that Ashley himself commented on when he spoke of his delight to be returning to Newcastle for 2018.

“I’m really looking forward to being back with Newcastle. I made it clear at the end of last season that I wanted to be back. I’ve loved being part of the team since I joined and the support I’ve received since being at the Club is so good to have.”

“I’ve invested a lot in new engines and I know I’ve got a lot more to give to the team. I want to improve my average and I know riding for two teams is going to benefit me for both leagues.”

“I missed out on track time last season with only having one team so I’m really excited to get the season started and hoping for a successful season for both my teams.”

Ashley is a hugely popular figure around The Diamonds set-up having come runner-up in the last two seasons in The Rider of the Year Awards and with the extra investment and rides he’s secured, he’ll certainly be looking to kick-on this coming season.

But for now, everyone at Newcastle Speedway is delighted to see a dedicated, hard-working and popular Ashley Morris back in the fold and obviously wish him all that he would wish for himself for 2018.
